We have now got back into our school routine and are doing our very best to keep on top of all the correct bits of kit to be taken in on the relevant days and getting used to which nights homework is coming home and when to fit guitar practice into the mix. As I am no longer tied up with college work it has meant Jamie has been able to take on a fuller calendar of after school and weekend activities so much of our time is spent taxi-ing him to and from these activities.
Cubs seems to be particularly busy this term with a couple of sleepovers and lots of outdoor activities, Jamie has after school football, he has joined a Karate class, does after school French and is now also going to a Music Ensemble run by the schools music service. Add into that the weekend activities of guitar lesson, drama and rugby and he is a very busy little man. Music Ensemble adds a social aspect to his guitar playing, playing along with 5 or 6 other boys about the same age and slightly older who are all on around the same guitar grade and he is playing a Frank Zappa song there too, which is just so cool!!
I personally am very much in favour of keeping children busy outside of school too, whilst allowing them some time just to do their own thing and chill. Some of the activities Jamie does are his choice and some are our choice, either way I think getting involved with these is so much better than sitting around watching TV, playing on the laptop or games console. He does, of course, still like doing those very much too.
I am still trying to work some swimming and library visits into his week too. I am also trying to encourage him to read more as I feel you can never read too much, especially at his age as it adds to his understanding of the world, aids his vocabulary and improves his writing skills. I would like to see him reading even more than he does.
School has been getting back into its routines too and we have had the first event of this academic year which was a sponsored walk/jog/run. Above are a couple of photos from the day and Jamie completed his 6 laps of the track and earned over £20 in sponsorship money for the fundraising - well done Jamie.
Ciao
