Jamie has started playing rugby! Jamie used to play a little rugby at the school he went to before going to EVS but they don't really play sport to quite the same level at this school so we thought adding something extra into his week might help develop some new skills and help his fitness. Improving our fitness as a family is something we are all trying to improve so we are all working together. As I have two nephews who both play rugby for Guisborough (up in the North East) and a very special family friend who plays for a local team we thought some rugby might be good for Jamie and as the same team P plays for was looking for junior players then it seemed a good match.
So now our Sunday mornings are spent taking Jamie to either his training or his match. I think because of his height and his build he was greeted with open arms as he will, once he has really built up his understanding of the game, and developed his skills be a real asset to the scrum and forwards. He has a team shirt and his position is tighthead prop which means he is on the right hand side of the scrum. He looks to be improving week on week and is really enjoying himself.
His team have played quite a few matches now and have done pretty well, winning 4 and losing 2. There are some very good players in the team and one young chap who is really fast and has scored some great tries. It is all really good fun on a Sunday morning, but may get a bit more challenging once the weather gets a bit colder!! Jamie loves the end of the match when both teams join together and head off for hot dogs and chips. Of course the other real benefit of rugby is the great team spirit in which it is played and the friendships which are made on the field and go into everyday life too.
It has also been a bonus for Mike as an old work colleague of his is on of the coaches a bear of a man known as S****y and who normally greets Mike with just one word which happens to be "ARSE!". All the coaches are brilliant so here is looking forward to Jamie working hard and training hard and playing hard and most of all enjoying his rugby.
Ciao
