Jamie Gets His Project Back
As we are now into our final week of school, Jamie is coming home every day laden down with bits and pieces that he has done or made throughout the school year. Today he got his Squirrel project back along with Bushy the Squirrel, which we made. He did really well in his project and had the least help with the project he has ever had. He got 10 merits out of 10 so was quite rightly pleased with himself. Wordprocessisng is clearly the way to go to get him focusing as long as he also does his handwriting as well. I am a bit of a stickler for good spelling and punctuation, even if I am not always perfect myself, I try to get him to be as careful as possible and try to set a good example.

Overall he found out a lot about squirrels, their life cycle and other varieties of squirrel which live all around the world, he included lots of photos. As part of his extras he read and reviewed The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, did an excellent drawing, one of the highlights for me was the poem he wrote,
Grey squirrels over took the red ones
Now they are nearly gone
Grey squirrels are everywhere
No one can stop it, is it unfair?
You see them springing
You see them swinging
You see them here and there
You see them absolutely everywhere.
Now they are going to go
People don’t like them
But don’t they know
This will not help
Soon there will be no squirrels at all
So why don’t we leave them alone.
Shooting them is not going to help
Who’d what to shoot one so furry, one so cute
Bushy tailed little creatures.
It’s just a natural thing to happen
If one breed is stronger than another
We have to leave it to nature to decide.
He had heard about the cull of grey squirrels in some areas of the UK and this was his response. I know I'm biased but a super poem I thought. He also included a word search, A Year in the Life of Bushy The Grey Squirrel, who lives in EV, MK. It's a super project and really sets the standard for his future work.
Here is a photo of Bushy
